CCC Summer 2025 Community Row Sign Up

Cumann Curaí na gCumar has started rowing our new currach and as a result there has been a lot of interest from the wider community in getting involved. In an effort to train folks in the technique of currach rowing, we're offering Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings as times to get out on the Willamette River to practice. We'll cap each session at four additional rowers so that everyone gets a chance to participate. We'll supply certified safety jackets and rowing gloves to participants but be sure to bring sun protection for eyes/skin, water to keep you hydrated, and a towel to dry off. Dress in non-binding clothing that can handle getting wet (including footwear). Also, this activity is very physical and involves being on a deep, moving body of water. If you are not able to lift 50 lbs safely, or do not have basic water safety skills (such as the ability to swim confidently), please do not sign up to row. You are always welcome to come watch and interact with the currach until you're ready to get out on the water. Finally, this activity involves risks such as injury or drowning (i.e. death). By signing up you acknowledge this risk, agree to uphold basic water safety practices, and release Cumann Curaí na gCumar, the Irish Cultural Society of the Pacific Northwest, and its representatives from any and all liability for injuries, losses, or damages incurred during these prescribed activities.
