Spend 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon with the brave and spirited Afghani ladies of Pacific Refugee Support Group. Volunteer swim instructors work one-on-one with adult women learners in a culturally responsive learning environment. Warm pool, shallow depths, individually paced with a focus on building confidence in the water through patience and joy.
Time: 1:30 (volunteers arrive) - 3:30p (volunteers depart). 1 hour in-water time.
Location: Beaverton Swim Center, 12850 SW 3rd St. Beaverton OR 97005
Volunteers receive: WaterStrong t-shirt, swim cap, stickers, light snack, gift card of appreciation, and the indelible feeling of connection, love and appreciation for the water and all our humanity.
Important note about cultural norms: For cultural modesty, volunteers should wear full-coverage swimwear that covers the legs and arms (eg. burkini, leggings, rash guards, long sleeve tee, etc)
Really important note about insurance: These Adult Learn to Swim clinics are part of the USMS Adult Learn to Swim program, covered under USMS insurance policies. To qualify for coverage under this program, clinic participants and instructors need to be USMS members. If you are a USMS member, please let me know. If you’re not already a USMS member, WaterStrong will chip in $25 toward the cost of your membership ($75 per year). Please let me know if you’d like this instead of a gift card of appreciation.
