Life Education Trust Coastal Otago has been supporting schools and tamariki across the Coastal Otago region since its establishment in 1996. Operating solely on grants, donations, and sponsorships, the trust receives no government funding. Healthy Harold needs help to continue empowering tamariki to make positive choices for their health and wellbeing. Many will remember Harold the giraffe and the mobile classroom visits from their own school days. While some issues have evolved over time, today's tamariki face new challenges such as anxiety, vaping, online bullying, and complex friendship and relationship dynamics. In 2023, school leaders across Coastal Otago reported that 86% of students are struggling with anxiety, and 56% noted a rise in online bullying.
To continue delivering their education programme throughout Dunedin, Oamaru, the Waitaki Valley, and surrounding areas, Life Education Trust Coastal Otago is launching a fundraising drive in June. We would love to see the community come along to meet Harold, and support this valuable resource for Coastal Otago schools. Every little bit helps to ensure Harold can continue making a difference for tamariki across the region.
