Powhatan State Park is hosting the 3rd Annual Pawpaw Festival on 9/20 from 11am-3pm! This event is a massive undertaking, and in order to make sure things go off without a hitch we need the help of our volunteers!
5 and 10 Miler Crossing Marshall Volunteer: Course marshals will be stationed along course and at all trail/road crossings of the race as well as each end of River Launch Rd to notify drivers of pedestrians on the road.
First aid and H2O tent volunteer: MUST be CPR/First Aid certified and will provide first aid to race participants as needed and ensure water table cups are filled and ready for participants.
Shuttle Route Driver: The shuttle driver will drive a 12-passenger van that makes stops every 15-20 minutes at the Festival Grounds, Launch A, and Equestrian Parking lot at designated shuttle stop areas.
Traffic and Parking Volunteers: Volunteers will direct cars into the parking areas and into individual parking spots.
Photography Volunteer: Photographers will take photos of performers, programs, and guests. Photo releases of adult attendees are not required. However, taking photos of guests under 18 requires verbal consent from a guardian. Please provide your own equipment.
Fence Installation Volunteers: Volunteers will help install temporary metal fencing around the festival grounds perimeter in conjunction with park staff.
Pre-Festival Foraging Volunteers: Foraging volunteers will help staff gather pawpaws which the park will offer as free samples to guests attending the festival. A staff member will reach out to coordinate a meeting time.
Mascot Handler Volunteer: The Virginia State Park Mascot, Parker the red fox, will be making appearances every half hour. The Mascot Handler Volunteer will be responsible for supporting the mascot to ensure safety due to limited vision, help with crowd interaction, and communicate on their behalf.
Pawpaw Baking Competition Judges: Festival participants will be enter their pawpaw baked goods. Judges will taste entries, collaborate on scores, decide a winner, and present the winner of the competition.
Contact Station Volunteers: Volunteers will help staff the park entrance and keep lines moving as visitors arrive, directing visitors into the appropriate entrance lane.
