Tree Care August - September 2025 signup sheet

We have thousands of young trees and hedgerow saplings growing at the farm. They're already improving things for wildlife, and bringing people together. As they grow, they will make the soil healthier and more stable, support much more biodiversity, provide windbreaks and shelter for our crops, and crops themselves of fruits, nuts and coppice wood. For now, they need human helping hands to keep back the grass, and make sure their guards are in place to protect them as they grow. Will you join us? Please sign up below...

*If you're signing up a workplace for a team day, please do not take more than three spaces in one session without contacting us first*

Meeting place
The portacabin in the farmyard entrance - the one with the painted 'welcome' sign - through the South Gate of the farm at the back of the Toby Carvery car park.

Please do try to arrive on time as it might be hard to find us once we've got started.

Weather & Clothing
Please dress for windy north Edinburgh! Sturdy footwear is helpful for comfort and safety - but you don’t need specialist equipment or gear. We go ahead in most weathers (but keep an eye on your emails if there are weather warnings). We supply gloves and any tools.

Facilities and Accessibility Notes
There is a single cubicle, gender-neutral, spacious and level access composting toilet for volunteers to use.

We don’t have a cafe on site. We do offer volunteers teas or coffee and biscuits at the end of the session, but you might want to bring a snack to keep you going.

Tree care sessions involve a bit of walking and a lot of bending (back and knees). We will be walking across the farm fields to get to the trees, which are rough and sloping, and can be muddy. We mostly use our hands and sometimes hand tools - no power tools. There is no need to do any heavy lifting, and no need to rush. We encourage you to go at your own pace and take breaks - we want it to be a fun experience!

If you have any accessibility questions, please email info@lauristonfarm.org
