The Knobby Tire Ride and Roll is an adaptive bike demo day with led rides and aMTB advocacy opportunity, as well as a fundraiser benefiting Empower Spinal Cord Injury, a residential rehab program for individuals with spinal cord injury. We are happy to partner with the North Shore chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA) for the 5th year in a row to bring our event to The Wicked Ride of the East on Sunday, October 26th!
Spaulding Adaptive Sports Centers (SASC) and Waypoint will be bringing a rad fleet of adaptive bikes for participants to ride - if you are **an adaptive rider** looking to reserve a bike to ride at the event or if you have your own adaptive bike and are planning to join us, please register for the event at https://support.empowersci.org/event/knobby-tire-ride-and-roll-2025/e718161.
If you would like to register as **a volunteer** for the Knobby Tire at the event, hooray! You're in the right spot!
At a minimum, Ride Guides need to have their own mountain bike and helmet, some off-road bike experience, be able to ride a ~3 mile loop with elevation changes on packed dirt, and be able to physically assist the adaptive riders as needed in a group ride format. We are also looking for Ride Guides with any of the following experience: a physical/occupational/recreational therapy background, intermediate-level mountain bike riders for the more technical ride loop option, and people with mechanical ability or familiarity with adaptive bikes are a huge plus! We are aiming to pair each adaptive rider with a Ride Guide and will be riding in a typical no-drop mountain bike group ride format with a Leader at the front, a Sweep at the back, and everyone else in between. Not sure what that means exactly? Don't worry, we will fill you in and make sure you're ready to go at ride time.
For Transfer Helpers, we are looking for OT/PT students, assistants, or therapists, rec therapists, PCAs, or any other people with 1-2 person transfer experience.
We are asking that KTRR volunteers watch a pre-recorded video for general information on adaptive mountain biking as well as some information on how the event will run so that they are prepared for the event.
We are only able to run such a great event with the help of our wonderful volunteers! Do you have any questions about which volunteer position would be best for you? Please email Lauren Kling at lauren.j.kling@gmail.com to have your questions answered.
