The City of Chicago, in partnership with The Loretto Hospital and Rush University Medical Center, will run vaccine clinics at two locations in Chicago's Austin community for 6 consecutive Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays beginning 03/12/21 and we are requesting community volunteers. Spanish-speaking volunteers are especially helpful. Hospital-grade masks and face shields will be provided to all clinic volunteers upon request. No medical knowledge or experience is necessary. The vaccine doses allocated for this Protect Chicago+ effort are for Austin residents only (volunteers are not eligible unless they are an Austin resident).

Bottled water and snacks will be provided for all volunteers. Free street parking is available at either location. Please arrive no later than 10minutes after your shift starts. The entire volunteer team will huddle at the start of each shift to give detailed instructions and answer questions.
Volunteer positions for the CATALYST site:
1. Main Door (4 volunteers per shift): Greet patients as they enter the vaccination site. Ask all patients who enter the time of their scheduled appointment. We ask that individuals do not enter the building more than 30 minutes prior to their appointment. Ask patients to confirm they live in Austin – this is just a simple yes or no question, their addresses have been checked by the health provider teams ahead of time. If a patient says they do not live in Austin please turn them away and let them know this event is for Austin residents only. Take all patients' temperatures – if a patient has a temperature of 100 degrees or higher, they may not enter the building. Create a stand-by list of contact information for any walk-ins.
2. Temperature Screener (1-2 volunteers per shift): Take temperatures of all individuals entering the building. If the temperature is 100 degrees or higher, they may not enter.
3. Patient Flow (5 volunteers per shift): Assist with the patient flow throughout the facility. Direct patients from the main door to the waiting areas and vaccination area. Answer patient questions (if medically related, direct to hospital staff).
4. Spanish Language Interpreter (1 per shift): Assist Spanish-speaking residents with the check-in process; answer questions as needed.
There is a parking lot directly across Central Ave from the school, on the east side of the street where volunteers arriving before 7am should park. The city has blocked off street parking for our use alongside Kehrein Center for the Arts on N Parkside Ave, as well as to the East of Catalyst on Central. Parking is also available on W Washington Blvd between Parkside Ave up to Pine Ave. The winter overnight parking ban is in effect until April 1st and cars are subject to towing where signs are posted. The volunteer entrance is the Side Door on Washington Blvd. The Temperature Screener volunteers will check the temperature of all those trying to enter. All patients should be directed to the front (main) entrance of the school.
Volunteer Roles for AMUNDSEN, per shift:
- OUTSIDE HELP: 2 volunteers outside for line management and handing out forms (1 Spanish speaker)
- MAIN DOOR: 1 volunteer for front door greeting and direction (We do not provide temp checks because there is no reason to as we are not turning anyone based upon that. Nurse practitioners will conduct a screening to determine if an individual can be vaccinated.) 1 volunteer stationed at the entrance to the gym to direct folks to their vaccination chair.
- PATIENT FLOW: 2 volunteers for front door Patient Intake Form and Vaccination Card review (making sure information is legible and fully complete), 1 is Spanish speaker. 1 volunteer identifying open vaccination chairs. 2 volunteers for chair sanitation.
