Legal Clinics are provided in collaboration with the Latino Bar Association of Washington (LBAW)! They will take place at El Centro de la Raza's Historic Main Building (2524 16th Ave S., 3rd Floor, Seattle, WA 98144). We will need volunteers to help with both intake and interpreting for attorney visits.
Tasks include:
~SET-UP/FLOATER (3-6PM): Assist with preparing the conference rooms and waiting area for the clinic, including setting chairs and tables and providing information for Clinic attendees who arrive early. When the clinic begins, they become FLOATERS and may be asked to assist in the waiting area during this time, monitoring the sign-in sheet or, if they are bilingual, possibly helping with intakes. Bilingual (Spanish/English) ability is useful but not required.
~INTAKE (4-6PM): Intake volunteers will meet with clinic attendees individually and complete intake forms with them in the order that they signed up. Intake forms ask for basic personal information, and ask guests to explain the legal question or situation that they are seeking advice for that day. Bilingual (Spanish/English) ability is required.
~INTERPRETING (6-8PM): Once the attorneys arrive (either in-person or virtually), interpreting volunteers will translate attorney consultations with each of the community members. Bilingual (Spanish/English) ability is required.
Please also note that Covid-19 vaccination is required for all in-person volunteers to El Centro de la Raza.
Please sign up for one of our upcoming Legal Clinics or contact Mandela Gardner, Volunteer Coordinator at El Centro de la Raza at volunteer@elcentrodelaraza.org or 206-957-4602 with any questions. Check back regularly for updates as additional Clinics are added!
