As If Theatre Company announces auditions for their upcoming production of The Foreigner by Larry Shue, directed by Ken Michels. Performances will run October 6-23, 2022.
Auditions for the roles below will be held August 15 & 16, with call-backs August 17 at the Wade James Theatre in Edmonds (950 Main Street). Rehearsals will begin Sept 6, with performances running Thursdays through Sundays October 6-23, 2022, at the Kenmore Community Club in Kenmore, WA.
Please prepare a contemporary comedic monologue not to exceed two minutes. Audition may include a cold reading from the script. Actors of all ethnicities and gender identity are encouraged to audition. Actors will receive a $300 stipend.
Actors should bring headshot and resume to audition.

About the play: The Foreigner is a hilarious, two-act comedy by American playwright Larry Shue. The story takes place in a fishing lodge in rural Tilghman County, Georgia where two Englishmen, Froggy and Charlie, arrive as guests. The shy Charlie agreed to accompany Froggy on the trip after his sick wife begged him to go. When people at the lodge try to talk to Charlie, however, he remains silent: he is terribly shy, depressed about his wife's illness, and cannot find the words to reply. Froggy claims that Charlie cannot talk because he is a "foreigner" from an exotic country and does not understand English. Taking the explanation that he's a non-English speaker as fact, the lodge's guests quickly begin revealing their secrets, and Charlie soon discovers scandals amongst some of the residents of the lodge.

Charlie Baker - (30s-50s) Charlie is the "foreigner" of the play's title, an Englishman who comes to Georgia for a weekend visit with his friend, Staff Sergeant Froggy LeSueur. Initially, Charlie is extremely shy, dull, and morose as he worries about the apparently imminent death of his philandering wife. A proofreader for an English science fiction magazine, Charlie considers himself "boring" and wonders what it would be like to have a vibrant personality.

S/Sgt. "Froggy" LeSueur (30s to 50s): a cheerful British Army man who teaches the use of explosives.

Rev. David Marshall Lee (30s to 50s): engaged to Catherine and, "it would appear, a good young man to have on our side".[3] He comes in and out of the play and always seems like a charmer when the ladies are around. When it is just him alone with Charlie however, he begins to show his true colors.

Catherine Simms (20s to 30s): a pretty heiress going through an emotional time. She is kind and caring towards Ellard and quickly shows Charlie the same attention.

Ellard Simms (late teens to 30s): Catherine's dim-witted brother, heir to half the family money if Catherine decides he is "smart enough to handle it". He is a kind, gentle-hearted man but no one really gives him the time of day until Charlie comes into the picture. Charlie not only helps Ellard become more in tune with really how bright he is, but is also taught by Ellard what it means to be patient and lighthearted.

Owen Musser (40s to 60s): a superstitious, dangerous racist man that lives in town.
