Volunteer at the Farm Seed Patch signup sheet
Help us take care of our seed crops - the farm produces seed because we believe that locally adapted seed which has been saved by with care, makes for way better seed than anything we can buy! We use our seed in the market garden, and we share our seed with our wider community. Each year we save more, and we could do with some extra hands to help us care for these crops.
Who Is This For?
You don't need previous experience. For this session, you do need to be fairly steady on your feet and have a bit of stamina for walking. We supply gloves and any tools.
Access Notes
We will be outdoors working on the seed beds in the market garden. There will be quite a bit of walking on rough grassy ground, and bending over to weed etc. No heavy lifting. The market garden is on the west side of the farm, near Cramond Road South.
Travel and Parking
There is no general parking on the farm. Please use public transport, walk, wheel or cycle whenever possible.
Buses: Lothian Buses 16, 27, 29, 37 & 47* all stop within 5 minutes of the farm (*47 currently affected by Davidson's Mains roadworks)
Bikes: You can lock your bike within the Market Garden area
Arriving at Cramond Road South entrance
The Market Garden is next to Cramond Road South. Please do not arrive by car at this entrance unless you have pre-booked a space. You can walk, wheel or cycle into this entrance.
Bikes & pre-booked cars: left turn only
Turning right on this road to get to the farm gate is dangerous - please travel 50m onwards and go around the roundabout so you can turn left into the gate.
Arriving from Lauriston Farm Road or wider surroundings
The main community entrance to the farm is off Lauriston Farm Road behind Toby Carvery car park (EH4 5EX).
Bikes: You can lock your bike at the community entrance (there is a large bike rack)
Walking across the farm: Allow 15 minutes to walk to the Market Garden from the Toby Carvery.
Weather
We will go ahead in most weather. Please dress for the outdoors and wear sturdy footwear.
