This year’s grain harvest is going to be Lauriston’s biggest so far. We have 2100 square metres of Granton Rouge D’Ecosse to harvest as well as the same amount of a Hebridean landrace of Oats and Rye and several smaller trial plots.
We also don’t yet have any of the machinery that larger farms would usually use to harvest and thresh their grain! So we need to go back to the old ways and depend on our community of many hands to help us get in the grains.
The activity is very weather dependent. Ideally we need good dry weather for this week. The volunteer sessions will be cancelled and postponed to other dates if the weather is not suitable.
