As If Theatre Company - The Cake - Audition Sign-Ups

As If Theatre Company is seeking actors for three available roles for The Cake by Bekah Brunstetter. Directed by Cindy Giese French.

AUDITIONS are Saturday, January 18th, 2020, from 11am to 2pm and will be held at Edmonds Driftwood Players at Main Street & Third (back door of the Bank of America bldg) in downtown Edmonds. Please let us know if you are not able to attend on Saturday, but wish to audition and we will do our best to accomodate you.

CALLBACKS will be Sunday, January 19, 2020, from 11am to 2pm at Edmonds Driftwood Players at Main Street & Third (back door of the Bank of America bldg) in downtown Edmonds.

REHEARSALS will be in held in Kenmore starting February 16 and will be Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, & Thursday evenings, 7pm-10pm.

PERFORMANCES are Thursdays – Sunday, March 19-April 5, 2020 at the Kenmore Community Club located at 7304 NE 175th St, Kenmore, WA 98028.
STIPEND: $300

Synopsis: All is going well for Della. Her North Carolina bakery is legendary, and she’s just been cast on her favorite television baking competition. When her late-best-friend’s daughter, Jen, comes home from New York City to ask her to make a cake for her upcoming wedding to her fiancee, Macy, Della is forced to re-examine her deeply held beliefs, as questions of morals, judgment, and family swirl around them all. This emotional and deliciously funny play was created by Bekah Brunstetter (writer and producer of “This is Us”).

TO AUDITION: Actors should bring a headshot and resume, and present a two-minute monologue. Artists of color and non-binary artists will be considered for every role. The role of Della has been pre-cast.

Available Roles:
JEN: Female presenting, 20s to 30s, any ethnicity.
Born and raised in North Carolina, she has brought her southern manners with her to Brooklyn, where she has made a home with her fiancée, Macy. An experienced event planner with a compulsive attention to detail. Considerate, kind, and enthusiastic, she wants to see the best in people, though she doesn’t always see it in herself. Her traditional upbringing is often at odds with her newfound liberal lifestyle, and planning her wedding to Macy in her hometown brings that tension to a crisis point.

MACY: Female presenting, 20s to 30s, person of color required
Born and raised in New York. Progressive, sharp, outspoken. Very confident in her belief system, and she doesn’t hesitate to challenge those who think differently. Innately curious and inquisitive. She has a deep love for Jen, although she is impatient with Jen’s willingness to make allowances for her conservative southern friends and family. She is who she is, and she won’t make compromises to coddle people’s feelings.

TIM: Male presenting, 50s +, any ethnicty
Della’s husband. A good southern boy. He’s a plumber with a great work ethic, who takes pride in providing for his household. He is comfortable in his traditional values, and has never seen any need to question his beliefs. He is loving and loved, though perhaps not completely in touch with his emotions.
