Living shoreline volunteer opportunities:
Volunteers can expect to mostly help with transplanting marsh plants from donor sites and nursery-grown stock, but other restoration tasks may also be assigned.
Safety guidelines:
If interested in volunteering, we are asking that all volunteers read the following safety guidelines and ensure you are prepared to follow these rules at all times during your volunteer activity. We will ask you to confirm your agreement with these guidelines by email in advance of your volunteer shift.
1. We are limiting the number of slots so that no more than ten people, including NCBS staff, will be on site at any one time and advance registration/sign-up is REQUIRED.
2. Those who are volunteering MUST:
a. Travel in separate vehicles to the site (unless you live in the same household or are all vaccinated)
b. Maintain the 6 feet distance asked by the CDC
c. Wear a mask if you are working within 10 feet of other people who are not members of your household or if anyone near you is not vaccinated
d. Work with your assigned set of gear, and do not share gear or touch other gear not assigned to you unless it is sanitized in between
3. If at any time it is apparent that a volunteer is not following the protocols outlined here, we reserve the right to excuse that volunteer from the remainder of the shift. These guidelines are in place to protect others as well as ourselves and MUST be respected at all times.
4. All volunteers should be aware of the Governor’s executive order 20-112, section 2, part B “…senior citizens and individuals with a significant underlying medical condition (such as chronic lung disease, moderate-to-severe asthma, serious heart conditions, immunocompromised status, cancer, diabetes, severe obesity, renal failure and liver disease) are strongly encouraged to stay at home and take all measures to limit the risk of exposure to COVID-19.” We ask that you fully consider these guidelines before participating in any of our citizen science projects at this time, and please feel free to let us know you are not available for volunteer activities.
