Thank you for your interest in helping to make the 2023 Busse Woods Night Ride a success! Read the various role descriptions below before signing up. We will contact you before the event to confirm your participation and provide additional details about the event and your role(s).
To ensure a well-organized and safe event, volunteers who fill the rolls of course pre-sweeps, wave leaders, and course post-sweeps have a mandatory training on Wednesday, August 23 at 7pm at the Boat House in Busse Woods.
All volunteers will be invited to a Zoom meeting on Thursday, August 24 at 7pm to discuss final details and ask any questions that come to mind.
Here is more information about the specific volunteer roles for the Night Ride:
SET-UP
• Assist with preparing the site for the event
• Registration table signage
• Wave area signage
• Refreshment area signage
• Erecting tents and moving picnic tables
LEAD COORDINATORS
• Coordinate key aspects of the event to ensure things run smoothly
REGISTRATION TABLE
• pass out BWNR swag
• process day of event registrations using PayPal Zettle device (training will be provided)
• share information and answer questions
RAFFLE TABLE
• Sell raffle tickets prior to raffle
• Pass out prizes to winers
MASTER OF CEREMONIES
• Share information with attendees and get them excited about the ride
BIKE MECHANICS (provided by 7 Mile Cycles)
• fill tires and address any mechanical issues before attendees leave for their ride
COURSE PRE-SWEEP
• Ride course prior to first wave, arriving back before first wave departs
• Install glow sticks and reflective tape on bollards
• Look for any potential problems on trail and report them to event organizers
• Attend training on Wednesday August 23 at 7:00pm at Busse Woods Boat House
WAVE DISPATCHERS
• Once the appropriate time has lapsed, send the next wave on to the course
• Review basic safety and etiquette (not a race, no weaving, single file, limit passing)
WAVE LEADERS AND SWEEPS
• Ensure that every rider has a light and helmet
• Control pace of ride and communicate any issues to event organizers
• Attend training on Tuesday August 23 at 7:00pm at Busse Woods Boat House
S'MORES/SNACK TABLE
• Pass out s'mores items to attendees
SAG SUPPORT
• provide vehicle with bike rack to pick up participants who are unable to finish the ride
COURSE POST-SWEEP
• Remove lights from bollards after last wave has passed by
CLEAN UP
• Assist with cleaning up the site after the event
All volunteers who complete their volunteer responsibilities can ride in one of the Regular Waves for FREE! All volunteers will enjoy all of the amenities of a paid participant!
