The Cleavers & Wild Leeks are emerging from the earth and snowdrops are appearing all around us - Spring is here and we can't wait to share the growing season with you in the GRR herb garden at Lauriston Farm. This year we are increasing our volunteering opportunities - you can join Rhona on the 1st Friday of the month 10-1pm and Soraya in a weekly session every Wednesday 4-6pm. Soraya's weekly sessions are drop in, so no problem if you arrive late or leave early.
This spring we are looking for hands to help us nurture our returning perennial herb beds, sowing seeds of annuals to interplant them with and potting up wee seedlings. Come along if you would enjoy hanging out in the medicinal herb garden with plant people, mucking in and drinking lots of herbal tea. We will have a range of tasks to suit different energy levels at each session.
For those interested, these sessions can be a great face-to-face way of chatting to us about any courses you would like to know more about and to purchase any of our product range without paying for postage.
When you sign up to a session, we will add you into an email group receiving updates when new sessions are released and related Lauriston Farm events. You can leave this group at any time.
What to bring:
Depending on the weather, bring plenty of warm & waterproof clothing. The ground can be pretty damp so waterproof footwear is best. Bring a sun hat, water & suncream if it's a nice day. Bring any snacks you will want & we will provide the tea.
How to find the GRR garden:
The Grass Roots Remedies hut and herb garden are located within the Market Garden of the Lauriston Agroecology Farm. The Market Garden is off Cramond Road South inside the deer-fenced area. You can come in through the gate just off this road (on foot or by bike), or if driving, walk to it across the farm from the Toby Carvery car park (a beautiful, roughly 15 minutes walk across the farm with expansive views across the forth). The address For the Toby Carvery end of the farm is: 69 Lauriston Farm Rd, Edinburgh EH4 5EX.
Watch our 2.5 minutes video explaining how to get to the GRR hut from the Toby Carvery here: https://youtu.be/_YvX0BVcHks (copy and paste into your browser)
Please note the turn into the Market Garden coming downhill on Cramond Road South is a very dangerous blind corner. If you’re on a bike or in a car we highly recommend continuing 50m round the corner to the roundabout so you can safely turn and approach the entrance on a left hand turn.
Buses: 16, 27, 29, 47 and 37 all come very close to the farm
Take note of Soraya's number to call us if you have any problems finding us - 07846987762.
Access:
If you are travelling by car and would struggle to walk across the farm there is some limited parking at the Market Garden - this is reserved for those who need it as an access requirement - if you need to park at the Market Garden please let us know by email in advance.
The GRR herb garden is accessed via grassy paths and hardcore paths. The garden paths are grass and there is wooden seating. There is an accessible compost toilet next to the garden and there is one step up into the GRR hut.
