EVENT: March for Monarchs Event @ Houston Botanic Garden
WHEN: Saturday, March 16, 2024 @ 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. (Actual Event Run Time: 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.)
WHERE: Houston Botanic Garden, 1 Botanic Lane, Houston, TX 77017
SERVICE: Volunteers will assist with the initial setup, staffing and ultimate breakdown of an event informational booth that is to serve as a place featuring "Texas" as an important stop for Monarch butterflies, or 'Danaus plexippus,' on their annual migration through our State. This outdoor station will be located at the entrance to the Houston Botanic Garden and highlight the critical importance of nectar sources as food for them on their journey. A number of other stations will be located throughout the HBG for this ticketed event and visitors are encouraged to visit them all. The primary messaging of this booth will be to help tell the migratory story of one of our iconic native insects and provide general information about our Master Naturalist chapter. Further, information about the State's Texas Master Naturalist program and the role of informed volunteers in our mission will also be shared. Our table at this event will be outdoors, but located in a very shady spot at the entrance to HBG. You should plan to bring a hat, sunscreen and the insect repellent of your choice. Chairs and a table for our groups use will be provided. If you have questions about the event and / or your planned volunteer outreach service, please contact David Gwin, Outreach & Communications, GCTMN at david.gwin@txgcmn.org.
