Theme: Micro to Marco
Covering the very big to the very small. Articles topics include microbes and their impact on the ecosystem, atoms vs planets, and the CRISPR’ed babies, how do small genetic changes lead to a big societal impact?
Sign-ups are open from 29th September to 5th October. Please sign up to a maximum of two articles!
2/3 people can sign up per article from which we will choose one to write for our magazine. All potential authors will be asked to send in a short blurb/pitch (4-5 sentences, can be bullet points) outlining their rough idea (and type of article (Opinion piece/Review/Research focussed discussing one or two recent papers) for the long-form articles). The deadline for these pitches is 12th October.
All successful authors will be informed and asked to write a first draft (details will follow). Anyone unsuccessful for the magazine will have the option to write for our Euscireka News section or our online blog. We want to ensure everyone gets the chance to write for us!
We will have two types of articles this year:
Long-form articles: These are 2-3 pages long, discussing one topic in more detail and linking small acts/changes to a larger context/impact.
Short-form articles: These are one page articles coming in pairs. Each article is written by a different authors but covering a similar topic from a 'big' or 'small' viewpoint. These articles will be side-by-side in the magazine. Authors can chose to work completely separately from their paired author, or they can discuss small ways their articles could link together if suitable.
Titles as they currently stand are only meant as a guidance for the topic but each author is free to choose their own more suited towards their text.
Please note you will NOT receive an automatic confirmation after signing up, but you will receive a reminder a to submit your pitch on 10th October (two days before closing). A committee member will be in contact.
If you have another article idea that would fit into the theme of the magazine, fill in your details in the "Any other ideas?" slot and send us an email at eusci.editors@gmail.com. Elena or Elly (our Co-Editors in Chief) will be in touch with you to find the best way of getting your writing published with EuSci!
