Cold Shelter is available when the temperature or wind chill is forecasted to be below 32 degrees Fahrenheit overnight. If the temperature and wind chill is forecasted below 32 degrees, cold shelter may be available if there are enough volunteers and clients need a place to stay.
Cold Shelter would not be available in Preble County if it were not for the selfless volunteers that step up to make it happen. All of the overnight supervision and food served is provided by volunteers.
THE FIRST TRAINING DATE IS MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2 AT 6 P.M. at the Cold Shelter location. 201 East Lexington Road Eaton, Ohio 45320.
Cold Shelter is open 8 p.m. – 7 a.m. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 7:30 p.m. and can leave in the morning once cleanup is complete.
When you sign up, you will be volunteering to check in with H.I.T. Foundation on your day each month to see if Cold Shelter will be open. You may sign up for more than one date. If temperatures are warm enough, Cold Shelter will not open on that date. On average, each volunteer will likely work between 1-3 times during Cold Shelter season.
For questions, or to find out more information, please call Jackie at 937-472-0500 ext. 422 or email jackie@hitfoundation.org. The Cold Shelter phone line for clients and volunteers is: 937-733-1098.
**If you are unable to commit to doing the same date each month, please sign up as an alternate/substitute (at the bottom of the list) OR notify us and additional volunteer slots can be opened for that date.
