Aug 9th Arbutus Open Mic, 7pm via Zoom signup sheet

Deactivated

This signup sheet is not accepting new volunteers.
Please contact the event coordinator for further details.

The Arbutus Open Mic is taking place on Zoom during the pandemic. As always, this event is open genre, welcomes all ages and any acoustic instrument. We welcome you!

We are asking performers to sign up IN ADVANCE so we can run the event more smoothly, however once we run through the list of people who have registered, we will open it up to anyone present who might not have signed up in advance.
Performances are limited to 10 minutes or 2 songs, whichever is shorter (including set-up time). Occasionally we have so many people sign up that we have to limit performances to 1 song.

At the time of the event, you will find the zoom link on the Arbutus Folk School Open Mic page (https://arbutusfolkschool.org/arbutus-open-mic-night/) or watch our Facebook events. Note you will be automatically muted when you arrive and will remain muted until it's time to perform. This is a social event so we encourage everyone to keep their cameras on, but it isn't required. It is more welcoming and interactive, but also entirely optional.

Recommended Zoom settings for performers –The audio quality of your performance will be greatly improved if you change Zoom’s Settings/Preferences from their defaults. Do this before joining the meeting. Start by downloading the Zoom app, or check for updates: https://zoom.us/download

>>> SETTINGS FOR DESKTOPS OR LAPTOPS:

Open the app. Click the settings icon (looks like a gear), and go to Audio. Uncheck the box for “Automatically adjust microphone volume”
Set Input Volume to about 75%. Under "Advanced" (or “Music and Professional Audio”):
a) check the box for “Show in-meeting option to “Enable Original Sound” from microphone”
b) check the box for “High fidelity music mode” and c) Uncheck the box for “Echo cancellation”
Close Settings

Note: this can increase CPU utilization and consume greater bandwidth. For best results, an ethernet connection (not WIFI) is strongly recommended.  A headset and high-quality microphone is recommended.

After joining the meeting, at the upper left-hand corner of the main Zoom window, click on “Turn on Original Sound” if that is showing. If “Turn off Original Sound” is showing, leave it as is.

>>> SETTINGS FOR PHONES OR TABLETS:

Under Settings (gear icon), select “Meetings”, Scroll down to “Use Original Sound”, enable it. Close settings.
After joining the meeting, if the menu items are not showing across the top or bottom of the meeting window, tap the screen to get them to show.
Tap on “More ” (…), then tap “Enable Original Sound” if that is showing. If “Disable Original Sound” is showing, leave it as is.

You will probably want to reset these settings afterwards if you use Zoom for regular (non-musical) meetings.
