Sunday December 15th, 2024
All volunteers:
- Tags for volunteers (will be provided)
- Wear elf hat/Santa hat/ cowboy hats/ other Christmas or cowboy attire
- Know ahead of time the site orientation, location of facilities, menu (to be able to answer any questions that might arise)
- Map and Volunteer Welcome Package will be sent to all volunteers prior to the event.
Volunteer Coordinator: Trina Walsh + 1 Runner
Animal Attendant (2 volunteers/ shift)
- Greet all guests to the area
- Ensure animals are being appropriately handled and cared for.
- Ensure the safety of guests by orientating them around safe handling and navigation of animals
Fire Pit
- Greet all guests to the area
- Ensure fire is well-stocked and remains within the boundaries of the pit
- Ensure there is no “playing”, “rough-housing” around fire
- Ensure no kids are playing with the fire
- If food (marshmallows, hotdogs, etc.) are being cooked, ensure safe operation of cooking (ie. no
waving sticks with lit marshmallows)
Parking Attendant (2 volunteers)
- Greet all vehicles that pull into NDRC and direct them to appropriate parking spot
- Allow drop offs of family at the drive way and point out any available parking,
- Note that parking can be along Blewett Rd but to be very cautious while walking and encourage drop offs
- Ensure no vehicles go beyond parking area
- Bring high vis vest or make sure you get one prior to starting shift
Welcome Booth (2 volunteers/ shift)
- Greet all guests and provide tickets by donation for event activities and directions
- Please ensure that before the event, you have familiarized yourself with the orientation of the NDRC and activities taking place
- Manage transactions of entrance donation and sleigh rides tickets
- Display boards will be provided of old photos
- Hamper if folks bring donations/food etc;
Concession (5 volunteer/shift)
- Greet all guests that come to the concession stand
- Volunteer 1/2 (orders): Take orders, relay orders to prep cooks and manage transactions (take money, give change). Prepare drinks. Manage baking sales.
- Volunteer 3/4(Food prep): Serve soup and rolls as needed. Heat water for coffee/hot chocolate
- Volunteer 4 (float/ clean up): Assist volunteers 1-3 with tasks above. Continuous clean-up of concession, eating area, and surrounding area. Change garbage’s if required. Address any
questions guest may have in eating area.
- Yvonne will be the main contact in the Concession
Gingerbread Ranch & Crafts (4 volunteers/ shift)
- Supervise and assist with easy Christmas-y crafts!
- Supervise children on rocking horses/ hobby horses
Cowpoke Play Area
Greet all children and parents that come to play area
- Volunteer 1&2 (roping demo): Help children (1 at a time) to try roping the cow dummy (2 roping dummies to be set up at a time). Explain why cowboys rope (ie. to catch cows to give them
medicine, or tagging them so they don’t get lost).
- Volunteer 3&4 (barrel saddles): Help children (1 at a time) to try mounting and dismounting from saddles on barrels. Maybe do a little explanation on how to mount and dismount. Have
both western and English saddles. Explain differences and what they are used for.
Hay Ride Drivers: Hay Ride Drivers/Attendants (2 drivers and 2 volunteers/shift)
- Drive tractor with trailer containing hay bales and people for a ride around the grounds
and to move them from parking area to concession stand
- All tractor drivers must have a thorough knowledge of tractor’s and multiple years of driving experience please reach out for this position.
Hay Ride Attendant(s):
- Greet all guests who come to get a tractor ride
- 1 attendant at each pick up and drop off area
- Ensure the loading/unloading of guest are done in an appropriate manner
- Explain rules to all guests (No standing while trailer is moving no pushing, rough housing of any kind, no children without their guardians)
Sleigh Ride Attendant (2 volunteer/shift)
- Ensure a line is maintained for sleigh rides
- Take tickets of guests for sleigh rides
- Provide safety information for sleigh rides (ie. Do not run up to horses, do not stand in front or directly behind horse, no sudden movement etc;)
Santa’s Helper
- Greet all guests who come to see Santa
- Maintain line for visits with Santa
- Hand out candy canes!
- Coordinate photography/ take pictures if required for guests with Santa
Set up/ Tear Down
- Help set up and tear down/ clean up event the day before and after event
