Learn how to use iNaturalist to identify animals, plants, and fungi in Campbell River. From May 5th to May 11th, identifications made at Erickson Pond, the Beaver Lodge Forest Lands, and the Campbell River estuary will be collected as part of our bioblitz project.
A Bioblitz is a community science event to facilitate public engagement with species ID using the iNaturalist app. The app works by collecting publicly-sourced IDs which other users like researchers can view, upgrade to scientific-level quality, and use for scientific research. Some bioblitzes focus on gathering research-grade IDs, while events like ours are geared more toward general public engagement on scientific literacy and conservation.
We will also hold a series of talks and outings during the week to generate more engagement (see below).
Thank you to the Campbell River Community Foundation for their support in funding this project, and the City of Campbell River for donating event space!
