We are seeking volunteers to assist TSA's National Explosive Detection Team Program at LaGuardia Airport (LGA). Your role will be to serve as a decoy and to carry a concealed training aid through an area where a Passenger Screening Canine (PSC) team is conducting search activity. This training keeps the K9's on their toes and stops the bad guys from getting through our checkpoints.
Our dogs are NOT bite dogs! They will not growl, bark or threaten to attack. They have a "passive alert" to signal they have found what they are looking for. Our dogs are here to protect the traveling public, not to harm them.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Please extend this invitation to family members and friends. Minors can assist in the training if accompanied by an adult but will not carry the training aid.
Our job as TSA K-9 handlers is to protect the nation's transportation systems, to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce. We accomplish our mission everyday by training our dogs to sniff out the bad guys!
TSA was created in the aftermath of 9/11 to oversee security in all modes of transportation. As a volunteer, you will be assisting our highly trained canines in maintaining their level of efficiency and effectiveness as a tool to deter explosive devices from entering into the nation's transportation systems.
You can sign up once every 40 days.
