Our Volunteer Water quality monitoring program is a fun and exciting way to understand the complexities of our lake ecosystems, as well as a great way to appreciate the beauty of our lake.
2025 will mark the fifteenth year of water monitoring by the Ambassadors. This programs allows us to continue contributing to long term baseline data while improving our methods. Our Lake monitoring and creek monitoring programs are open to volunteers and occur every Wednesday starting in May to September. Our role as Lake ambassadors mean we aim to connect our community with as much hands on experience in the stewardship of our lake. We are capable of teaching up to two volunteers the wonders of water quality monitoring, every morning we survey.
For Lake Monitoring: We meet at the Athalmer Boat Launch at 9 AM or at a Boat Captain's house at 9:30. We will be in contact with you to let you know which one. We’ll be on the water for approximately 2-3 hours, so please bring a snack, water, sun protection, and an extra layer incase the wind picks up.
Life jackets (PFDs) will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer. This monitoring is weather-dependent—if wind or waves exceed our safety limits, we will cancel and notify you in advance.
Creek monitoring does not involve a boat. We have extra waders for your use but you will not go into water deeper than your knee. Monitoring begins at 9AM and we will be in contact with exact location if you choose to volunteer for that shift.
