Greetings Potential Volunteer,
We are so excited you have decided to volunteer with us!

Garden of Lights is a 12-night fundraiser benefiting Heathcote Botanical Gardens’ year-round programs. The event offers 5 acres of innovative garden and Holiday illumination including the lighting of our large collection of tropical and subtropical Bonsai. Some fun features are a self-guided scavenger hunt for our younger guests, refreshments, photo opportunities, live music and Santa most nights.

The garden welcomes volunteers aged 14 and 15 with the participation of a parent or guardian. All minors (under 18 years old) are required to submit a signed authorization form. All volunteers are required to have an application on file. These are available on our website and will be on hand each night of the event.

Directions for volunteering:
Select a position and click the arrow. Fill out the very short form. Your information will not be shared with anyone outside of Heathcote and the Volunteer Coordinator. You will receive an email from the Volunteer Coordinator 1 week prior to your chosen night of lights. This email will have specific information on parking, dress code, and other special details for your date and assignment. Extra hands outside: wiping tables, transport items to locations, help with outside setup including musicians for the night

Ambiance station: smore pretzels

Gate Security: Direct guests to proper entrance, limit other unauthorized entrances

Security/First aid/Lost & Found: volunteer should have some level of medical experience, ability to remain calm & focused

Admissions- handle money and credit card transactions. Sell “glasses and necklaces” at point of entry and promote the scavenger hunt and map. Must be comfortable handling money and able to suggest addtional purchases.

Counter at gate: with a counter/clicker in each hand, count children and adults entering the event.

Heathcote Bear: take pictures and help line move along and keep area neat

Bonsai Docent: knowledge of bonsai, answer questions, Facilitate movement in the directional flow.

Docent : keep guests on the path and out of the lights and water, facilitate movement throughout the garden, answer questions and manage props in their area.

Where I am needed: will work any job, any where.

Santa's Workshop: greet guests, flow of guest and make sure Santa is good.

Picture selfie area: help with the flow of traffic and keep picture taking brief

Green Squad: wipe down high touch areas.

Art Raffle: sell raffle tickets

Handicap parking in front of gift shop. Assist with directing cars to appropriate parking and redirecting cars that do not require handicap parking.

Garden of Lights closing assistant: assist with any needed trash collection, do loop for collecting boxes and materials, make sure all tables are clear of event materials. Help direct food trucks out of gardens if needed.
