As If Theatre Company is pleased to announce auditions for its spring production of RIPCORD by David Lindsay Abaire, co-directed by Cindy Giese French and Chris Shea.
Auditions are Sunday Jan 12 & Monday, Jan 13, with call-backs on Tuesday, Jan 14 - 7-10 pm. Auditions and callbacks will be held at the Northlake Lutheran Church, 6620 NE 185th St, Kenmore, WA 98028
Rehearsals will begin Feb 9, 2025, Sundays through Wednesdays, 7 pm-10 pm (as called).
Performances are March 20-April 6, 2025, Thursdays-Sundays, at the Kenmore Community Club in Kenmore, WA.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Actors should bring headshots and resumes to audition and come prepared with a two-minute comedic monologue.
All actors will receive a $300 stipend.

About the show: A sunny room on an upper floor is prime real estate in the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility, so when the cantankerous Abby is forced to share her quarters with new-arrival Marilyn, she has no choice but to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper woman by any means necessary. A seemingly harmless bet between the old women quickly escalates into a dangerous game of one-upmanship that reveals not just the tenacity of these worthy opponents, but also deeper truths that each would rather remain hidden.
Cast size – 3 men, 3 women. Actor of all ethnicities, gender identification, and physical abilities will be considered for all roles and are encourages to audition.
Abby Binder (lead – 60’s-70’s)
Abby is a retired schoolteacher who is living at the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility. She wants to live by herself and fights having Marilyn as a roommate. Abby is a loner who is sarcastic, impatient, cranky, and stubborn. Abby is also the mother of Benjamin who is disappointed with his unsettled life as a recovering addict.
Marilyn Dunne (lead – 60’s-70’s)
Marilyn is a widower who lives at the same senior living facility and happily shares a room with Abby. Marilyn is the loving mother of Colleen. Marilyn is warm, kind, bubbly, energetic and loves to chat. However, Marilyn also has a competitive, mischievous side.
Scotty (supporting – 20-30’s)
Scotty is the resident aide at Bristol who is a caretaker by nature and works tirelessly to improve the rooming situation between Abby and Marilyn. Scotty is also an amateur actor who plays a role in the haunted house scene. He is enthusiastic, friendly, and positive.
Colleen (supporting – 30’s-40’s)
Colleen is the daughter of Marilyn and wife of Derek. She is a devoted daughter who strives to improve Marilyn’s living situation with Abby. Colleen is upbeat, friendly, but also a competitive prankster. She also plays the Woman in White in the haunted house scene.
Derek (supporting – 30’s-40’s)
Derek is married to Colleen and supportive of her efforts to improve Marilyn’s living situation. He is a caring, loyal husband and son-in-law who also has a joker, prankster side. Derek also doubles as the Zombie Butler in the haunted house scene and the Masked Man.
Benjamin (supporting – 30’s-40’s)
Benjamin is the son of Abby and is a recovering addict. He and Abby have a strained, distant relationship; they haven’t seen each other in five years. He is a caring son who is regretful about his troubled life and wants to show Abby that he is fully recovered and a good son. Benjamin also doubles as Lewis the sky diving instructor (loud, bold, daring) and as the clown in the haunted house scene.
